Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is a condition characterized by abnormal enlargement of breast tissue in men. This condition leads to a feminine appearance and an increase in volume in the male chest. Gynecomastia can occur due to various factors, such as puberty, aging, hormonal imbalances, or side effects of certain medications. Excess estrogen production or insufficient testosterone production due to hormonal imbalances can lead to breast tissue growth in men.

Procedure

Gynecomastia surgery is typically performed by combining liposuction (fat removal) and mastectomy (breast tissue removal) techniques. The method used for the surgery depends on the severity of the gynecomastia, the type of breast enlargement (fatty tissue or glandular tissue), and the patient’s body structure.

Recovery Process

After gynecomastia surgery, mild pain may be felt during the first few days, but it can usually be controlled with prescribed painkillers. The recovery process typically takes a few weeks; swelling and bruising may occur in the initial days, but these symptoms will gradually decrease. The patient may wear a supportive bra or compression bandage to speed up the healing process. The results are generally permanent, but the full recovery process may take a few months to become fully apparent.
