Tummy Tuck
Tummy Tuck

Tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) is a procedure aimed at removing excess skin, fat, and tightening the abdominal muscles to improve the appearance of the stomach area. This procedure is typically performed to address issues like post-pregnancy abdominal laxity, sagging after significant weight loss, or the loss of skin elasticity due to aging. A tummy tuck not only addresses aesthetic concerns but also tightens the abdominal muscles to create a flatter, more toned stomach.
Procedure
Tummy tuck surgery is performed under general anesthesia, and patients are fully asleep during the procedure. The length of the surgery depends on the extent of the procedure. A mini tummy tuck usually takes 2-3 hours, while a full tummy tuck can take 3-5 hours. The duration of the surgery depends on the surgeon's experience and the scope of the procedure.
During surgery, the surgeon makes a long incision in the lower abdomen, hidden in the bikini line. Through this incision, excess skin and fat are removed, the abdominal muscles are tightened, and the skin is pulled taut. If necessary, the belly button may be repositioned.
Full Tummy Tuck: The excess skin and fat around the belly button and lower abdomen are removed, and the abdominal muscles are reshaped to make them more defined. This procedure is especially suitable for patients who have loose abdominal muscles due to pregnancy or significant weight loss.
Mini Tummy Tuck: Only the excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen are removed, typically without affecting the belly button. This procedure is appropriate for individuals with minimal sagging.

Recovery Process
Recovery from tummy tuck surgery generally takes around 6 weeks, although this may vary depending on individual factors and the extent of the procedure. For the first few days, mild pain, swelling, and bruising may occur, which can be managed with pain medications. During the recovery period, patients are advised to wear a compression garment to support the healing process.
By the end of the first week, most patients can return to light daily activities, but heavy exercise and physical exertion should be avoided. Swelling typically decreases within 3-4 weeks, and by 6 weeks, full recovery is generally achieved. However, the final results and appearance of the abdominal area may take a few months to fully settle.
The scars from a tummy tuck usually heal well and are hidden along the bikini line, becoming less noticeable over time. Following the surgeon’s instructions during recovery ensures the best possible outcome.
