Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation surgery is an aesthetic procedure performed to increase the size of the breasts. It is commonly chosen to enhance breast volume, correct asymmetrical breasts, or reshape breasts that have lost their shape due to aging, weight loss, or post-pregnancy sagging. This procedure is typically carried out using silicone implants and is tailored to meet the individual's specific needs.

The silicone implants used in breast augmentation come in two main types: anatomical (tear-drop) and round. The choice of implant type depends on the individual's body structure, height, shoulder-to-body ratio, skin elasticity, and aesthetic preferences, which are determined by the surgeon. The outer surface of the silicone implants is covered with a durable silicone shell, while the inside is usually filled with silicone gel. Implants can have textured or smooth surfaces and come in various volumes, base diameters, and heights to provide the best fit for each person.

FDA-approved, high-quality silicone implants are used in breast augmentation surgeries, and the health risks are extremely low. Scientific research has shown that silicone implants are not associated with breast cancer. Additionally, silicone implants are long-lasting and can be used for a lifetime, provided there are no complications. Implant replacement is only necessary if a problem occurs. Therefore, breast augmentation surgery, when performed with the appropriate surgical technique, offers both safe and permanent results.

Procedure

Breast augmentation is typically performed under general anesthesia, and the surgery usually takes about 1-2 hours. The surgeon will have a detailed consultation with the patient regarding the type, size, and position of the implant to be placed under the breast tissue or muscle. The incision for the implant is usually made along the breast fold, around the nipple, or in the armpit area. Since the incisions are small, scars will fade over time and are minimally visible due to the careful placement.

Recovery Process

After surgery, patients may experience swelling, bruising, and mild pain for a few days, but these symptoms will subside with time. For the first few weeks, the patient should avoid heavy physical activities and sudden movements. Recovery varies from person to person, but most patients can return to their normal activities within a few weeks.
